Protecting the Unborn

These are not abstract political positions for me. They are the beliefs of this community — beliefs I share because I grew up here, worship here, and raise my family here. My Christian faith and the values of Greenwood County are the foundation of everything I fight for in Columbia.
I believe that every life is precious and that the right to life is the foundation of all other rights. Since my first day in the State House, I have fought to protect the unborn and to make South Carolina a state that values every human life from conception to natural death.
I authored the South Carolina Fetal Heartbeat Protection from Abortion Act, which prohibits abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected. This landmark legislation was signed into law by Governor McMaster and upheld by the South Carolina Supreme Court. It is one of the strongest pro-life laws in the nation.
I also authored Dylan's Law, which requires that an ultrasound be performed and offered for viewing before an abortion can take place, ensuring that mothers have the fullest information available to them.
In addition, I have worked to defund Planned Parenthood in South Carolina and to redirect those taxpayer dollars to community health centers that provide comprehensive care without performing abortions.
I am a chief sponsor of the Fetal Personhood Act, which would recognize the unborn as persons under South Carolina law from the moment of fertilization, affording them full legal protections.
I am also a chief sponsor of the Human Life Protection Act of 2025, which would strengthen South Carolina's protections for the unborn and close remaining loopholes in our existing laws.
Protecting Children
Our children are our future, and I believe we have a sacred duty to protect them from harm. I have led the fight in the State House to shield children from dangerous ideologies and irreversible medical procedures.
I am the chief sponsor of the Help Not Harm bill, which bans gender transition surgeries, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers for minors in South Carolina. Children deserve to be protected from life-altering procedures they cannot fully consent to or understand.
I am also the chief sponsor of the Save Women's Sports Act, which ensures that biological males cannot compete in women's and girls' athletic competitions in South Carolina. This legislation protects the hard-won opportunities for female athletes and ensures fairness in competition.
Traditional Marriage
I believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, as ordained by God and affirmed by the people of South Carolina. I will continue to defend the traditional definition of marriage and to oppose any efforts to redefine this foundational institution.
