John is married to his wife Dana of 45 years. Together they have two children, JR (married to Amy) and Kelley Robertson (married to Dillon), and five grandchildren. Faith, family, and service to community have always been at the center of John's life.

Professional Career

John is the managing attorney at McCravy, Newlon, Sturkie & Clardy, a Greenwood law firm where he has practiced for decades. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Lander University, where he teaches Commercial Law.

His legal career has given him a deep understanding of the laws that affect our businesses, families, and communities, and that knowledge has served him well in the State House.

Legislative Service

John has represented House District 13 in the South Carolina State House since 2016, now serving his fifth term. He represents the communities of Greenwood and Laurens Counties.

When John arrived in Columbia, there was no organized voice for pro-family, pro-life values in the State House. So he built one. He founded the SC Family Caucus — a coalition of conservative legislators dedicated to protecting life, defending religious liberty, and promoting family values. The caucus has become one of the most influential voting blocs in the legislature, and its work has produced landmark legislation including the Heartbeat Bill and the Help Not Harm Act.

John also serves as Chairman of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers for South Carolina, working with like-minded legislators across the country to advance faith-based public policy.

Community & Faith

John is an Elder at Calvary Chapel Greenwood, where he and Dana are active members. His faith informs his public service and his commitment to the values that matter most to the people of District 13.

John is deeply embedded in the Greenwood community through both leadership and service:

  • Founding Member, Greater Greenwood United Ministries
  • Board Member, CrossRoads Women's Center
  • Member, Greenwood Chamber of Commerce
  • Member, Masonic Lodge

He believes that elected officials have an obligation to serve with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to the principles that made America great.
